Student Officers
The Student Officers represent the student body at the University of Reading (UoR) on campus, locally and nationally. Officers are voted in by the RUSU membership, the student body, annually via an online election. Each Student Officer’s term of office lasts for one year, from July to July. A Student Officer may restand for a second term and remain in office if voted back in.
There are five Student Officers who lead the Union:
- President
- Vice-President of the Union responsible for Academic Affairs
- Vice-President of the Union responsible for Student Activities
- Vice-President of the Union responsible for Welfare and Representation
- Vice-President of the Union responsible for Democracy and Campaigns
Collectively, the Student Officers are responsible for the affairs of the Union. Each Student Officer also has their own individual remit to follow. The role of the Student Officers within RUSU is to make sure that students are being provided with high quality representation, opportunities for personal development and excellent services and facilities.

The Student Officer’s exist primarily to represent students and to improve the experience of students whilst at the University of Reading. Student Officers are the link between students and the University. Student Officers liaise with the University through Committee Meetings, projects and lobbying to improve the experience of students.

Student Officer’s attend the National Union of Students (NUS) Conference each year and also run the NUS’ priority campaigns at RUSU. Student Officers liaise with the NUS for advice and information of what is happening in Students’ Unions throughout the UK.

The Student Officers are Trustees of the Students’ Union. The President is the Chair of the Trustee Board. Reading University Students' Union is a charitable organisation and is governed by a board of trustees. The role of the trustees is to provide the organisation with direction on major issues. The Trustee Board meets several times a year and receives detailed reports from Reading University Students' Union's senior management on organisational progress, financial performance and proposed initiatives.
