Working in the UK after your studies
Many international students are interested in staying on in the UK after they have completed their studies for work. There are various employment categories students can apply for but only if they meet the requirements. The most popular one which international students usually apply for after they have completed their studies is called Post Study Work which comes under Tier 1 of the Points Based System (PBS).
You have to meet the point’s requirement for the Tier you apply for. For full details of how to apply, you need to read the policy guidance for the relevant category. Please ensure you complete the current application form and check the requirements again at the time you apply as they are subject to change.
Please note that Tier 2 General replaced the previous Work Permit scheme. You cannot apply under this category unless you already have a job offer from an Employer. The Employer has to be prepared to act as your Sponsor and issue you with a valid certificate of sponsorship.
For further details of the scheme, please visit the Tier 2 General (Skilled Workers) page of the United Kingdon Border Agency (UKBA) website.
