Top Tips on Relaxing:

Even when you're studying and everything's is manic, everyone should take some part of their day out to just relax - it's good for you! So here are some ideas to get you thinking about how to take that vital time out of your day to just chill out:

  • Do some exercise - even if it's just going for a short walk, or try being a bit more adventurous and joining a sports club at RUSU
  • Take up a new hobby and make sure you dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to it
  • Arrange to meet up with friends for lunch - it's easier to miss lunch or work through it if you have it alone, but your friends will want to know where you are if you don't turn up!
  • Have a bubble bath
  • Listen to some music that you enjoy
  • Watch a DVD, or if a film is too long, then watch just half an hour of TV

Ever feel stressed, anxious or worried?

It's inevitable that you'll feel as if things are getting on top of you at some point during your studies, whether it's concern about your finances, personal issues that you may have or problems with your housing. The most important thing, however, is that you seek the advice or help that you may need before these stresses start to impact on your academic work. Below you'll find links to a variety of services available at both RUSU and at the University that aim to provide you with the support you may need during your time studying. If you're not sure who to get in touch with, then drop into the Students' Union and we'll point you in the right direction.

You are not alone

You may feel like everyone else around you is coping but a surprising number of people suffer from depression and anxiety.  If you're feeling really low you're definitely not the only one. Read some case studies of students who have experienced depression at this website: Students Against Depression.  Some case studies from Reading students will be up here soon.
