Memo from the University re. Van Emden Closure
Background:
Last term, the Van Emden Theatre in HUMSS was closed for perfomances due to fire regulations, and the lighting rig failing its test.
The fire regulation upgrade for HUMSS will be happening over the next 18 months-2 years, which will include assessing whether or not to spend the money needed to ensure Van Emden is upgraded to performance space level.
Since the beginning of this term, many of the societies affected by this closure came along to Student Voice, where their campaign to keep Van Emden as a performance space was voted in as the campaign for this term.
RUSU is currently researching all the background behind this campaign, ready to put together a paper which will be taken to all the relevant committees in the University. To have a strong enough campaign we need the support of all of you! Let's show the Unviersity just how essential it is to keep the space for student performances!
