Personal Safety

Look out for more Personal Safety Tips in Freshers' Week & Week 1.

Safety Tips:

Out & About:
  • walk with confidence and be alert
  • avoid dangerous short cuts
  • keep to well lit/populated areas
  • avoid walking home alone at night
  • always keep a taxi number with you
  • if you think you may be being followed, cross the road/change direction; if they continue, head to a busier place or find someone who can help
In Your Halls:
  • don't let anyone you don't know into your hall - would you let a stranger into your home?
  • keep valuables out of sight always lock your door and window, even if you're just popping out
  • make a list of items you have with you each term
  • mark your valuables
  • report crimes immediately
In Your House:
  • if you can't take valuables home over the Winter holiday, put them in self storage or leave them with a friend
  • insure your belongings - a burgulary will cost more
  • keep a list of items left at your house over the break
  • always lock doors and windows before you leave
  • don't leave bikes or outdoor equipment outside
  • report crimes immediately
