Manifesto

My name is Chris Mitchell. I'm running for RUSU President having studied law for three years. Whilst representing the JCR of my Hall and regularly meeting with University staff to stand up for students, I now have both the confidence and ability to fight for the student's corner. I wish to carry this on by representing every student at Reading.

Value for money is an issue for all students. I will fight to maintain the cap on tuition fees and campaign for South-East Weighting providing you with as much loan as London students. Raising hall bills must stop and provision of longer library opening hours is also essential.

I see further education in life as vital; as such I intend to battle to keep the funding for Equivalent or Lower Qualifications, ELQs, allowing students to reach their full potential.

The University recently improved sporting facilities, but more needs doing. A swimming pool on campus is a major priority as is the re-opening of the Sports Pavilion.

Bulmershe deserves better. I will push until we get a free cash machine on site and free travel between campuses. Some of the Union spaces at Bulmershe should be opened during the day to provide decent social areas.

For those non-drinking students I want to provide some unlicensed recreational space within RUSU and for those who smoke, press the University to provide some exterior shelters.

On top of all this I will continue and further the good work RUSU is currently undertaking.

Three Main Points

  • More for your Money ? Longer Library Hours, Keep the Cap, Cease Rise in Hall Bills and get South East Weighting.
  • Serious about Sport ? Fight for a Campus Swimming Pool and the Re-opening of the Sports Pavilion.
  • Universal Union ? Social Spaces to Suit Everyone's Needs at Both Campuses.
