Manifesto

I am a final year Chemistry student and I believe that I AM the BEST candidate for VP Student rights and Diversity; I have EXPERIENCE with many welfare issues from being the Male Welfare officer at Bridges Hall and have many IDEAS to improve the Union for YOU! I have noticed that the Union could be doing a lot more for Student Rights, welfare provision and ensuring students are happy in all aspects of University life. As well as the three points listed above, if elected I WILL campaign for:

  • MORE funding for students studying within the South East - students at Reading SHOULD get more MONEY to reflect the typical costs of living within the area like London students do,
  • Better SUPPORT during stressful times such as exam periods,
  • An unlicensed social area within the union where ALL students, even those who are not able to be in a licensed area, can come and socialise
  • BETTER welfare provision within ALL halls -  the university should make sure that all halls are equipped with better welfare provisions including the halls yet to be built,
  • The encouragement of MORE campaigns to be run within halls -  all halls should be running campaigns each term, NOT JUST the union
  • The Black and Minority Ethnic Liberation group to be SET UP -  students from ALL backgrounds should be represented.
  • Greater INTEGRATION between different types of students such as Mature and Post Graduate

Three Main Points

  • MORE lighting and CCTV on and around campus - students should feel SAFE ANYWHERE on campus ANY TIME of day!
  • KEEP the Night Bus running to University campus - this is an ESSENTIAL service used by many students and should NOT be TAKEN AWAY!
  • Recognition of ALL major religious events within the union - equality extends to religious beliefs and all religious events SHOULD be treated EQUALLY!
