Manifesto

Why elect Dave to NUS Conference?

This is what I stand on -

Higher Education Funding

Fighting Top-Up Fees and the possible lift of the cap in 2009. Fighting for a more workable system that doesn't penalise lower-income students through contributions after graduation.
Fighting to ensure the NUS stops the government taking 100m away from Equivalent and Lower Qualifications which would be particularly detrimental to mature students.

Green Unions and NUS

Fighting for the motion we have submitted to ensure that the NUS is supporting us to become Greener unions and so the NUS itself becomes a sustainable organisation.

NUS Governance Review

Fighting to ensure that the review is ratified so that your NUS works well for Reading, providing effective support and campaigning, and making sure the student voice has credibility on a national level.

Welfare Campaigning

Fighting to ensure that the NUS is supporting us in campaigning for better student housing and free prescriptions, both of which need a voice on the national level.

This is the experience I have:

  • NUS Conference delegate 2007
  • NUS Extraordinary Conference Delegate 2007
  • NUS LGBT Conference Delegate x 3
  • South East Area NUS Executive Officers 2007/8
  • RUSU VP Student Rights and Diversity 2007/8
  • RUSU Campaigns Convention Chair 2006/7
  • RUSU Equal Opportunities Committee Chair 2006/7
  • RUSU LGBT Chair 2005/6

Going to NUS conferences in the past gives me the knowledge of how these work so I can concentrate on the issues in hand, as well as aid conference virgins! So vote DAVE #1!

Three Main Points

  • See through the much needed NUS Governance Review so that the NUS works for Reading's Students.
  • Supporting our motion to promote sustainable Students' Unions.
  • Ensuring Reading has voice on the big national issues in Education and Welfare Policy.
