The National Union of Students needs to remember its priority; students as students. Our time should be spent discussing the hundreds of key issues affecting students as students; Higher Education funding, a strong student voice, and financial support whilst studying. Other key issues include securing safe secure and affordable student housing, not allowing high street banks to bully their student customers and so much else!

What the NUS should not be prioritising are things like international politics, or imposing the morals of some individuals upon others. Of course it is fantastic for students to engage in such wide ranging issues, but this should not be prioritised above education issues and others affecting students as students.

Sending Pete Jeffreys to NUS Conference will send a strong message that Reading's voice will be strong on education and issues for students as students. Securing a strong National Union for our students is essential to ensuring our interests can be defended, extended and promoted.

• Education given more time at conference that any other topic
• Passing constitutional reforms to securing a strong National Union for the future
• Strengthening the voice of Reading students on conference floor this year and for future years
