Manifesto
Hi, I'm Simon, a final year Politics and IR Student. I was the boat club president from 2006 to early 2008, and am the Sports Federation president for the academic year 2007-8.
If elected, I will work towards ensuring that RUSU and the University provide the best possible experience for students, whether they are involved in Sports, Societies, Student Media, or Volunteering.
On sports, I believe Participation and High Performance are not mutually exclusive, and that it is possible to support both aims. On election, I will work with clubs to put in place development plans that the clubs themselves, RUSU, and Sports Park can work together on, and which will enable clubs to achieve goals that they wish to attain.
I feel that the skills Volunteers gain whether they are within Club or Society committees, RAGS, the Student Media, or in other areas of volunteering are vital to their employability, and potentially as important as academic skills. I will seek to increase volunteer numbers, and ensure that volunteer's valuable skills are recognised.
I know the administration and support system at the Union very well. If elected, I would lobby for the introduction of a RUSU credit card, and a streamlining of the accounting system to ensure that committees are able to run their clubs and societies efficiently, and with confidence.
I have a history of success in club administration, and am confident that I can bring this success to RUSU, and improve the University Experience for every Reading Student.
Three Main Points
- Club Development Plans which reflect Clubs Goals
- Continued and Improved Recognition of the Value of Volunteer Skills
- A RUSU Credit Card
