History

"We came. We drank. We conquered"

Now many of you have embarked on your new lives as history students at Reading, the history society is here to guide you in engaging in the most enjoyable years you will have at Reading University. Of course other non-history students are welcome as the society's reputation for throwing the best socials is vastly expanding. However, the key motivation behind our exhilarating nights out is to unite the history students throughout the years who are in pursuit of a university career filled with camaraderie, entertainment and alcoholic beverages (to be consumed sensibly of course).

Why join?

As a result of the history course set up, there is only one module in which all you newbies get to mingle with the history student body as a whole. Due to this difficulty, we want to give you ample opportunity to meet the creme de la creme of the student community. We were there once, there are probably hundreds of people you would see in your lecture and would like to get to know but can't quite pluck up the courage. This is why the history society is imperative to your social lives whilst at university.

Socials

Socials are clearly the easiest way to get to know people. We will ease you in slowly, taking you to the best places in town accompanied by some fabulous deals on drinks. However, we are sure you will want to spread your wings sooner or later, which is why we organise the best weekend abroad to Amsterdam later in the year. While Amsterdam is full of historical sites and educational attractions, it is also a fantastically messy weekend, what more could a history student ask for. For those of you that fancy a bit of a change, we will also be putting on some historical trips such as the Tower of London and other attractions where we will be history students by day and socialites by night. After an educational visit, we can relax and unwind with a few drinks in London.

Membership

In order to make the socials better than ever before, membership fee this year will be £10. The reasoning behind this is because, the keeno committee would like to put on a ball at the end of the year to send you into your second year in style and obviously this costs. Rather than charge a lot of money later, we would prefer to see if it is possible to do on a budget which in turn will benefit the society as a whole.

Other Benefits

Although there are several sports teams to join at Reading University, for those of you that want to play football or netball now and again for fun can join the history teams. While the football team was very successful last year, we hope to start other social teams this year such as netball or rounders. We are also giving you the opportunity to own a history society hoody. In order to make you feel like an active member of the society, we thought it was about time you could parade it around campus. Should you order your hoody from the stall at fresher's fair, you will get it at the bargain price of £20, any late orders and the price will increase by £5. Although the fresher fair is a big place, there is no need to fret.... you will be able to find the committee stall due to its amazing slideshow of past ventures and the uber cool t-shirts the committee will be wearing.
