Jewish

After taking the helm at the end of February we have managed to organise fortnightly Friday night meals, organise socials, attend joint events with Brighton and Bristol J-soc, link with the local Jewish community and organise events for Jewish festivals; these are some of many activities that have resulted in a consolidated membership with many regular members.

Reading J-soc has a unique blend of personality and members backgrounds, which contribute to make it a special place for all of its members. It is for this reason that we have try to appeal to a wide Jewish audience, catering for people whatever the level of their link with Judaism.

In the academic year 2007/08 Reading Jsoc members totalled a healthy 30, with a large proportion present at all events. We have a diverse range of members including Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

We hold many events across each term including fortnightly Friday night meals. We also put on events for all of the Jewish festivals throughout the year, where our Succah crawls, Chanukah parties and Mock Passover meals are extremely popular. We have a whole range of purely social activities; going bowling, attending football matches and clubbing. We also welcome speakers to talk on a variety of issues and we hold an extremely lively Southern region meal every year where a speaker visits and students from other universities travel to our Jsoc for this event.

We are a very close knit society and have very strong links with the community and other Jsocs across the country. We regularly attend Reading Synagogue events which have included an Israel 60th party. We are invited by the community to member's houses for meals on a constant basis. Reading Jsoc enjoys the communities' relationship and will continue to embrace it. The Jsoc attends many events across the country (including weekends away) which are held by other Jsocs and The Union of Jewish Students. This gives members a unique opportunity to catch up with old friends and make many new friendships.

Our Jsoc is close knit, fun, sociable and continually growing. We aim to provide you with a vibrant Jewish University life.
