What is the Societies Convention?

All the societies at RUSU are brought together at the Societies Convention.  The convention is held three times a term, and the presidents from each society are expected to attend so that they can represent their members' views.

Each year (during the summer term), a committee is elected by the Societies Convention members to oversee the societies for the comming year.  They are usually current committee members from some of the individual societies, but any member of a society is encouraged to run if they are interested.  The committee for this coming year are listed below, so you can see who they are and you can contact them if you need to.  Please remember that RUSU can be contacted directly on student.activities@reading.ac.uk.

The committee oversee the consideration of extra grant claims (when a society needs more money for an unforseen expense) and new societies.  The final decision on these requests are put forward to all the societies at the Societies Conventions, where they are voted on by representatives from each society.  The conventions are also where RUSU may ask for your feedback about how societies are run at Reading.

The Societies Convention is a way for you to have your voice heard, so if you would like anything raised at the convention, make sure your society president knows and they can take your views to the societies committee and RUSU.

	Vice-President: Swaleh Ouma Responsible for encouraging communication between RUSU and societies and amongst societies and liasing with RAG regarding relavent charity fundraising, in charge of promoting the use of the Societies Facebook page and coordinating and promoting the "Give a Go" sessions and other participation initiatives run by the RUSU staff and VP Student Activities. 	Secretary: Richard Hussey Responsible for reminding committees of when Societies Convention is and other deadlines, also resposible for taking a register at every Societies Convention meeting and creating and publishing the minutes from every Societies Convention meeting and Committee meeting. 	Treasurer: Max Parfitt To be in charge of keeping track of the contingency fund budget and keep a record of all extra grant claims. If you have any questions about putting in extra grant claims email Max on: m.r.parfitt@reading.ac.uk

Societies Conventions

All presidents must attend every Societies Convention held on the Thursdays.  If you have an extra grant claim or wish to propose a new society, you must also attend the committee meeting held the Monday before the Thursday convention.
