Jitsu

Welcome to the RUJC!

As many of you might be able to guess Jitsu is a martial art hailing from Japan, there are many reasons to do a martial art. For defence, for fitness, for fun or to make new friends, these are just a few and all apply to the Jitsu club.

Jitsu is primarily a joint locking, holding and throwing art although it does include strikes, chokes, strangles and use of weapons, with proper application it can be deadly but for a samurai it was a secondary method of combat (the legendary katana being the first choice).

Some may think that martial arts are not real and of no or very little use outside a dojo, that the techniques taught depend on specific circumstances or that it is scripted, person A punches person B throws. To a certain extent this is true in the beginning, everyone has to start somewhere, at novice level you will train from scripted attacks but this gets harder and harder as you go up until at black belt you get 4 armed simultaneous unscripted attacks and are expected to win.

Jitsu is great fun and I have never regretted starting, I hope you come to train with us and enjoy it as much as I have.
