Headway (Thames Valley), Henley, promotes understanding of all aspects of head injury and provides information, support and services to people who have suffered a head injury. Volunteers are sought

(a) to befriend and help support workers to run activities e.g. arts and crafts, drama, gardening, cooking and cognitive therapy. Sessions of 2-4 hours are negotiable and flexible between 10am and 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

(b) To support clients which could include escorted trips to local shops or garden centres. Time commitment is flexible and negotiable. On the job training and as specific need arises is provided.

(c) To assist full-time fundraiser at a number of proposed fundraising and awareness events during 2009. Time commitment is flexible and negotiable Monday ­ Sunday to suit the volunteer. Support is provided by members of staff team.

References and Police checks are required. Reasonable expenses can be re-imbursed

Berkshire County Blind Society seeks a volunteer who is patient and a good listener to visit a blind lady who is interested in current affairs and lives in Twyford. Visits are requested at least once a month on days and times that can be flexible. Training and support are provided. References and Police checks are required.

Age Concern Berks seeks volunteers to assist for 3 hours on Monday and/or Tuesday mornings with basic admin tasks including filing, photocopying, answering phone calls, using Word and Excel. References and Police checks are required.

Reading Resource Centre (Tapestry) seeks confident and caring volunteers to socialise in a variety of locations with adults recovering from a mental illness (depression, anxiety, schizophrenia etc.). The volunteer would support people in a wide variety of different social events ranging from a quiet drink in a pub to an evening at the cinema. Induction and on-the-job support is given with telephone support when necessary. References and Police checks are required. Expenses are paid.

ABC (Assisting Berkshire Children) to read seeks volunteers to work one-to-one with children aged 6-11 in primary schools in various areas of Reading, during school hours and term time. Volunteers should be literate, able to read, listen and relate to children, helping them to think of reading as something they can enjoy, The next training course begins in September consisting of 4 sessions that must be completed. References and Police checks are required.

Mid Hants Railway seeks volunteers for a number of roles to maintain and operate the Watercress Line e.g. telecommunications, installation and maintenance of track, signals and telegraph maintenance, carriages and wagons maintenance, foot plate crew, catering opportunities, publicity, fundraising, special events helpers, shop assistants, office assistance.

Days and hours worked can be flexible. Police checks are required.

Feed the Children International UK provides emergency relief to communities in need abroad and also funds projects which include feeding and education both in the UK and abroad. Volunteers are sought for a number of roles,

including:-

(a) Press Liaison Officer to promote the organisation through radio and television, including creating a working relationship with local press, preparing and releasing articles with pictures to promote the work of the organisation etc. The days and times worked can be flexible and negotiable.

(b) To work with the Office Manager on Friday mornings for 2 hours creating letters from spreadsheets and standard letters.

(c) General office duties for a minimum of 3 hours, producing letters and other communications, filing and other office tasks, printing bulk mailings and envelope stuffing. Accuracy and a good standard of English are required.

(d) Receptionist tasks involving greeting visitors, answering telephone, dealing with queries and requests for information by telephone and face to face, telephoning volunteers to request help for specific tasks and other suitable jobs as necessary. One weekday for minimum of 3 hours 10am-1pm, or 11am-2pm required.
