Julia Horne - VP Democracy & Campaigns

As Vice-President Democracy and Campaigns my role is to make you aware that RUSU is you! (democracy) and that what ever issues you have as a student we will fight them with/for you (campaigns).
Read my blog:
Democracy:

The Sabbatical officers are students elected by students to stand up and represent you … But we need you to tell us how to do it! So...Speak up!

Do you want cheaper bus fares in Reading? Free Prescriptions? Tell us at , where you choose an issue to change

Do you want to know exactly what the sabbaticals are working on? Tell us how we could be working better at

Do you like the beers in Mojo's? or want more bands? is the place for you.

Want to have a go at changing it all? Why not run in the RUSU Elections to be a Sabbatical in 2008-9?

Campaigns:

RUSU campaign's on issues that you want to see change... past campaigns have included the NUS demo on top up fees, stop the closure of physics, Silent Students Happy Homes, removal of the library doors.

This year we want you to tell us what the issues you want to change are. is where you decide the BIG campaign for the term.

Want to get involved in campaigning? build up your CV? AND gain extra credits to your degree? Join the RUSU Campaign Squad.

Let's make change happen!

Community and Enterprise:

As well as all the democracy and campaigning... also lies two other areas that are becoming increasingly significant in the student experience are community and enterprise.

Living in the Reading Community, whether in halls or in a house, brings issues surrounding students in the community. I sit on neighbourhood groups and community forums to ensure the student voice is heard and listened to and the SSHH Campaign is devoted to raising awareness of issues in the community so we can produce a two-way respect between all members of the community.

Enterprise is a growing area nationally - encouraging young people to become entrepreneurs! This is something I will be looking into over my year in office.

If you have any queries or suggestions about the union, how its run, or any campaign ideas then just drop in to my office, email or chat to me around on campus.
