Hi and welcome to the University of Reading! As Vice President Student Rights and Diversity I will be promoting welfare and equal opportunities for all students. I will be campaigning and representing students on campus and within the local community as well as working with the JCR Welfare Reps and the representation and liberation groups
To ensure that Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) is as diverse and as welcoming as possible I will be making sure that our equal opportunities policy is maintained as well as overseeing the liberation and representation groups.These include Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Students (LGBT), Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students (BAME), Mature Students, Students with Disabilities, Post-graduate Students and International Students. These groups are constantly developing and welcome any help to launch campaigns and organise events. It is vital the Union and University understand your needs so get in touch and get involved!
To celebrate the diversity of Reading's campus I will be working with RUSU to help recognise different religious and cultural events and the needs of different groups. As part of this I will be initiating a forum for religious and other groups to raise any concerns they may have.
Some of the Welfare issues I will be campaigning on this year are; safer student areas, housing, mental health awareness and support, healthy living, alcohol and drugs awareness. I will be working with the Welfare Reps from Hall JCRs on some of these issues, so if you would like to get involved get in touch with me or your Hall Welfare Rep. I want to campaign on welfare issues that matter to you, so let me know if you have anything you feel strongly about.
I am here to offer you support and if I am unable to advise you, I will point you in the right direction to someone who can.
