I'm Sinead, your Students' Union President for the next year. I studied Psychology here last
year and come from a small island in the Channel Islands called Jersey; but enough about
me and more about the Student's Union…
Luckily for you, at Reading we have a fantastic Student's Union. We are here to enhance
your student experience in as many ways as possible. The Reading University Students'
Union is a not-for-profit organisation, run by students for students.
We have hundreds of clubs and societies that you can get involved in, allowing you to meet
loads of people whilst either returning to a loved sport or hobby or learning a new one. Our
advisory services are here to provide support and advice, whether it's financial, housing-related,
academic, or personal. If you are a bit of a student activist then get involved in our campaigns
and debates about student-related issues in the community or on a national level.
Coming to University is all about learning but it is also about so much more than the degree
you will leave with. Come along to the Freshers' Fayre in Freshers' week to see just how much
you can get out of your time here at Reading!
The Students' Union also has a number of social spaces available to you. This could be to enjoy
a pint and some pub grub in Mojos, a coffee and pastry in Café Mondial or dance the night
away in our 3sixty nightclub. RU Being Served, our convenience store provides all the bits and
pieces that you might need and if you are at the Bulmershe campus, 'Bullys' offers the same.
Most importantly, the money that you spend in the pub, café or shop comes right back to you
the student, supporting amongst other things, the sports clubs and societies that you are
involved in.
The four Student Officers and I are here to ensure that you get the most out of your time here
at Reading. We are also here to represent the student voice - so feel free to come in and speak
to us! Our offices are above the Hub in the Students' Union building. Drop by anytime or attend
one of the meetings we hold each term in which students can voice their grievances or provide
ideas as to how to improve student life in Reading. Only by listening to the thousands of students
on campus will the Students' Union develop and improve, ensuring that year upon year students
get their moneys worth out of University life.
So get informed and get involved. I'll see you soon!
