Easter Update  - Friday 28th March

Well what's going on with me? Umm well Reading's delegation at getting ready to go to the NUS conference in Blackpool where students from up and down the UK will come together to discuss and debate issues that really effect students.Reading submitted a motion about sustainable students unions, which reflects all the work we have done through our Go Green campaigning.

I've finished pulling together evidence from the last five years so Reading University can apply for Fairtrade Status. This means the University and the Union will promise to stock Fairtrade goods, promote the cause and campaign on the issue. Campaigns Forum have been sooooo outrageously good! Holding lots of events in Fairtrade Fortnight (and throughout the year) for years so for them I really hope we do get the status as a lot of people have worked really hard!

In the first week back in summer term I'm hosting an I LOVE JCRs meeting. This should be really exciting as current and newly elected representatives will all get a chance to meet each other and share their ideas and experiences to help all JCRs work more effectively next year. I'm really chuffed to have got to know some of the JCR reps this year, previously RUSU and JCRs didn't have much interaction but being able to get everyone together to talk has been a real step in the right direction.

Through out the exam period I'm really aware of the huge levels of stress. I remember this time last year and I think I spent more time stressing about not revising than revising! So with that in mind I'm promoting the issue through a campaign called Chillax. It just highlights that 3sixty is an alternative to the library, tops tips on how to stay chillaxed and some freebies to give your mind a break like frisbees and lollies. I'd also like to remind everyone that we have:

  • trained student advisors inin RUSU,
  • there are professional counsellors in the Carrington building,
  • there's the Chaplaincy behind Cedars,
  • there are wardens in your halls of residence,
  • and there's always the option of popping home for a bit.

I always find some good food and a series of Buffy does the trick but whatever floats your boat lol!

And finally…. With my time at RUSU nearly coming to an end I'll be starting some handover stuff with Rhiannon (President Elect). I wrote up the tasks, communications, and committees that I'm involved in and it even scared me a bit. So I'll be doing a lot of work with her to make sure she can hit the ground running and start planning some fantastic campaigns.

Thanks for reading and feel free to pop by if you have any questions.
