Midnight Library Opening

Want somewhere peaceful to revise until late? During the exam season, 14 April 29 May, Main Library is testing opening Monday to Thursday until midnight. It also opens to 21:00 on Fridays.

Following a hugely successful campaign by VP Education Pete Jeffreys and the students' union, the Library will be extending its hours as a taster of what can be expected from Autumn 2008.

Throughout the evening, all study and PC areas remain open and Self-Service Points are available for borrowing, returning and renewing items.

To meet demand during these times, Library staffing has been re-organised. You get standard evening services until 19:30, including collecting anything from the Collection Point and paying fines. From 19:30 to 00:00 (midnight) you can use the Library in a self-service capacity, but also get Reception, photocopier and security support.

Also, as usual during the exam period, Main Library stays open two hours later on Fridays to 21:00, with standard staffed services throughout.

Pete Jeffreys said "I'm proud the library has been fantastically responsive to the ever growing voice of students needing increased access to the building. This is the first time in over five years that we have secured an extension to opening hours, and I hope this is the first momentous step towards some even better opening hours during weekends."
