Officer Roles & Responsibilities

 

This area gives you an overview of the roles of each Student Officer, and what their
individual responsibilities are. Collectively Officers are responsible for the affairs of the
Students' Union.

 

President

Overall leadership, representation and strategy
  • Lead the representation of student views and interests to the University, locally and nationally.
    Take a lead role in representing and promoting RUSU and Reading University students within
    the student movement, the local community and other key partnership
    organizations
  • Consult with students to inform future strategy and to be the primary point of communication
    with the membership, liaising with Senior Management of the Union to ensure effective
    planning of Union services and activities
  • Lead initiatives in the interest of the student community and Students' Union, in partnership
    with key University departments, lead the ethical and environmental agenda and support the
    Sabbatical team as is appropriate. 

VP Education

Leadership and strategy for education
  • Consult students both formally and informally on their academic experience and aspirations,
    so as to inform future strategy
  • Take the lead role in campaigning on academic aspects within the University and beyond
  • Promote input into the University academic strategy at all levels, overseeing the Student
    Academic Representation structure and promoting participation as appropriate

 

VP Student Activities

Leadership and strategy for giving students the opportunity to engage in their
interests to further their development
  • Responsible for the development of sports clubs, societies, the student media, volunteer
    groups and associated training, campaign and support
  • Alead role in developing partnerships both within the University and with other organisations
    to further the volunteer experience and to develop students outside of their degree
  • Advise students on the organisation of activities, making recommendations to Sports Fed
    and Societies Convention on new groups and other initiatives as appropriate

 

VP Student Rights & Diversity

Leadership and strategy for empowering students and asserting their rights
  • Empowering and informing students to make decisions
  • Promoting diversity in decision making, involvement and the Union generally
  • Taking the lead role in ensuring equality of opportunity within the Union, the University
    and at a local level
  • Welfare representation.

 

VP Democracy & Campaigns

Leadership and strategy for involving students and engaging them with
campaigns
  • Taking a lead role in Union campaigns, overall campaigns direction, supporting activists and
    campaigners
  • Promoting democracy and Union governance
  • Promoting students within the local community, giving opportunities to take ownership of
    their neighbourhood
  • Develop the enterprise agenda in partnership with the University and other key stakeholders,
    leading on the employability of students with learning and development opportunities
