Where do we meet? Meetings are in Palmer G03 on Thursdays 6:30-9:30pm

Membership fees  Membership fees are £6 or a bargain £5 at the Freshers' fair. We do ask that membership is paid ASAP as then the real fun begins.

What do we do?  The debate society aims to help students improve their public speaking skills through encouragement and teaching. We usually debate in British Parliamentary style which is also the most taught method within the society.

Debates can range from serious issues to light hearted motions on just about anything with the aim that everyone can join in. So if you've got an opinion or would like to hear others voice there's its the perfect place to be.

On top of encouraging those who are new and improving those who have debated before the Debate Society runs weekend trips to national debate competitions. These are subsidised by the society and we aim to involve everyone right the way from the experienced to novices.

Reading Open 2008

The Reading Open is running again this year. For those who are interested in competitions but don't want to travel far here is your chance. The competition will be held in the second term….more info to follow.

Construction Management

Also a word for Construction Management students; we have been recruited to help you improve you debating skills through additional sessions. However to really get the most of the society we are happy to run Mace style debates (the style used for your assessment) whenever you attend our meetings. This could really help you get that grade you've been looking for and for a mere £5 for the year a bit of a bargain too!

If you have any questions feel free to contact us on the addresses provided above and we hope to see you soon.
