The new readingLive student E-mail service is a step change in IT Services' provision, offering enterprise-class communications, shareable online storage and free-to-use applications to all registered students.
readingLive is the name the University has chosen for this service and all the subset of services that are included in this offering, which is based on the Microsoft Live@edu service.
The email element of this service is based on a cloud-hosted version of Microsoft Exchange 2010, with approximately 10GB of storage available per user.
This email service can be accessed from anywhere on the internet, via the live.reading.ac.uk portal. The data in the email service is guaranteed to be held within the EU.
The email system can also be accessed via a dedicated email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, or by using a smartphone. There are further instructions on how to configure the service for these options on www.reading.ac.uk/readinglive
readingLive also has the offering of the SkyDrive, a 25GB online storage space, again hosted in the cloud. There are restrictions on the use of the SkyDrive service which are detailed on the SkyDrive page. Please read this before using the service.
The readingLive FAQ covers other questions that you may have regarding this service.
There is another FAQ available at Check Student FAQs which has more general Student FAQs as well as IT related questions.
