RUSU works to raise student awareness of a variety of issues; from education to environment, homelessness to housing, sexual health to student rights, world affairs to welfare matters.
‘What’s the R.U.S.H?’
Week 3-6, Autumn Term
This campaign is targeted towards students moving out of halls and into the private sector for the first time and aims to raise awareness about the volume of student housing stock in the Reading area and to stop students signing a contracts too early in the Autumn Term. This will then reduce the number of students who want to get out of their contracts in the following year.
What RUSU plans to do
Display posters in the Union building, JCR rooms, at entrances to Halls buildings and University Bars.
Student Officers/JCR members to distribute flyers in various locations on campus during weeks 3 & 4.
JCR reps to advise students not to be pressured by letting agents/landlords into thinking there is a shortage of student housing in Reading.
To provide housing talks in Week 7, before the Christmas break, to ensure that students get the information they need BEFORE they sign their contract
Encourage students NOT to sign a housing contract until after Housing Talks and Christmas
