No Stigma, No Shame

No Stigma No Shame Mental health awareness campaign 6th-10th October 2014.

1 in 4 students suffer from mental illness, whilst others bear witness to friends or flatmates that are subject to mental illness. ‘No Stigma, No Shame!’ is about taking mental illness at face value, and not being afraid to accept and converse about it as a vital part of everyday life. After all, we all have mental health.

The campaign aims to encourage students from 6th-10th October 2014 to engage in some simple steps which may help to prevent mental illness from developing. Events include a Jazz Lounge night in Café Mondial, playing a football match at the Madejski stadium training dome, meditation and mindfulness sessions, and even things as simple as eating ‘happy foods’ such as blueberries!

A mental health awareness campaign is a priority at the beginning of the academic year because new students who may be feeling anxious, unsettled, or homesick in a new environment need to be targeted and impacted by the campaign.
