Summer Caving Trip to Peak
Castleton, Hope Valley, Derbyshire
Fri 21 Jun 2019 18:00 - Sun 23 Jun 2019 21:00
All this lovely summer weather has us itching to get back underground.
At Ben A's suggestion, let's go caving again! It's been a while and now that exams are over there's no reason not to go deep underground and get very wet and muddy.
We're going to be staying at the TSG which is a converted chapel, right in the heart of Castleton, which is itself a very quaint little village (and a bit of a tourist trap).
We'll be looking to go to Peak Cavern which would be right on our doorstep. Peak Cavern is also known by the unofficial but much better name Devil's Arse, which is a very entertaining story I'm sure you'll hear several times on the trip. The entrance is through a show cave where we pass lots of tourists who like to say they've been in a cave, and are therefore cavers, but it's just a lot of walking around brightly-lit passageways. The real caving is further in.
It's a very wet cave so pack lots of warm clothes you won't mind getting absolutely ruined in muddy cave water.
Hope to see you all there!
