What is Welcome Week?

Welcome Week (also known as Freshers' Week) gives all new students the chance to settle in, meet new people and familiarise yourselves with the new surroundings before term starts.

Take a look at RUSU's events and the UoR events that are planned.

What is an NUSextra card and how can I get one?

You can purchase an NUS Extra card from the NUS website or at RUSU Reception when you arrive. The NUS Extra card costs £12 and offers a huge number of discounts online and in the high street. If you are an international student or regularly travel abroad, you can take advantage of FREE ISIC. Find out more about NUS Extra.

How can I buy tickets for Students’ Union events?

You can beat the queues and purchase tickets to our events online.

As a new student, you cannot register for a Student Account on the RUSU website until you're on campus and have claimed your Student Access Card. That's the final phase of student registration for the University. Only then will RUSU receive confirmation that you are a member of the Students' Union.

To create a student account on the RUSU website to buy tickets, you will need to first create a guest account. When RUSU receives confirmation of the completed registration, your Guest Account will then merge with a Student Account.

  1. Register for a Guest Account by visiting rusu.co.uk/guest and filling in your details. Enter your name and date of birth so we can match your account once you've arrived and enrolled.
  2. Activate your Guest Account by clicking on the link in your validation email. This will be sent to the email you used to register your Guest Account. If you haven't received your validation email please check your spam/junk mail inboxes as they are likely to have ended up there.
  3. Log onto the RUSU website using the details you provided when registering.
  4. Select the 'Buy Tickets' link on an event's webpage where applicable and follow the instructions to complete your purchase.

Alternatively, you can buy tickets from the 3sixty Box Office when you arrive. Check out the 3sixty Box Office opening times.

I'm having trouble registering as a Guest on the RUSU website, who should I contact?

Please email us at enquiries@rusu.co.uk and we'll do our best to help you out.

Please note: If you haven't received your validation email, please check your junk/spam folder. During times of high demand validation emails may be delayed. But don't worry, it will come to you.

How do I enrol onto my course?

You can find enrolment information including key dates on the University's Online Enrolment webpage.

I have questions about my accommodation, who should I contact?

Can I change my course once I arrive?

Where can I find a map of campus or help with directions?

You can download a campus map from the University website or pick one up from the RUSU Reception.

How do I register for a doctors surgery?

There are various doctors surgeries located around campus. The University Medical Practice can be found in Northcourt Avenue, a 10 minute walk from the Whiteknights campus. You can register online or during Welcome Week. The Chancellor House Surgery is located on Shinfield Road opposite the Whiteknights campus entrance. Representatives from the surgery will be at the Societies and Sports Fayres during Welcome Week so you can talk to them and register with them then.

There is the Co-operative which if you have a NUS card you are entitled to a 10% discount on all food items. A small selection of shops can be found on Christchurch Road near the Sportspark, and other major supermarkets can be reached by bus/car.

When will my student loan be paid?

This should happen when you pick up your university student card. If problems occur you can find help at the RUSU Advice Service or the Student Services Help Desk.
