RUSU has recently been made aware of allegations of racist discrimination and harassment occurring in our venue.
We are immensely proud of our diverse community of both EU and non-EU students, and as an organisation we are fully committed to representing all students. We appreciate that many students will have wanted to celebrate the Brexit outcome, but this does not provide an excuse for anti-EU remarks aimed at other students.
RUSU condemns these comments and reminds students that any form of racial abuse, harassment, or bullying will be dealt with accordingly in line with our disciplinary process. RUSU operates a Zero Tolerance Policy on harassment and discrimination and any form of racial abuse is completely unacceptable.
Students are encouraged to report harassment or abuse via the #NeverOK platform to allow for full investigations. We would also encourage students to report any forms of abuse within RUSU to staff at the time of occurrence.
If you have experienced racial abuse or harassment and would like some support, you can view an outline of the support services available on campus via the University’s website.
