Nominate now in the RUSU Excellence Awards 2020

I was pleasantly surprised to have been nominated and to have then won the award - it feels really good. I believe it’s one of the best things to have as a lecturer because for a career as a lecturer, students are the most important people, and so for this award to come from the students, is really exciting.

But it’s only made possible when students nominate staff for the awards. The nominations period is now open and we want you to know all about who and how you can nominate! We encourage you to nominate your favourite support staff, academic tutors and teaching staff. You can also nominate your favourite Student Reps too!

The Excellence Awards

The RUSU Excellence Awards recognise University of Reading staff who display excellent and innovative teaching practice. Students award staff who they believe have gone above and beyond expectations, working to improve the delivery of the teaching and learning experience.

We also have the Student Rep awards that celebrate the amazing work of our Course Reps and School Reps who go the extra mile to represent the student voice and create positive change.

The Partnership Showcase - what happened last year?

Last year’s RUSU Partnership in Teaching and Learning Showcase was a lovely event, bringing together the teaching and learning community at Reading. Hundreds of inspiring nominations from students were presented for attendees to read. Professor Gavin Brooks welcomed the room and gave opening remarks about the value of sustainable partnership between the University of Reading, RUSU and the student population. The afternoon included the presentation of the Excellence Awards to staff and student winners. A programme of best practice showcases from some of the winners was inspiring; this is what one winner had to say about partnership last year: “I was pleasantly surprised to have been nominated and to have then won the award - it feels really good. I believe it’s one of the best things to have as a lecturer because for a career as a lecturer, students are the most important people, and so for this award to come from the students, is really exciting.” - Dr Lebene Soga from Henley Business School.

Make sure you’re at the Showcase scheduled for Wednesday 29th April 2020 and take a look at the Showcase webpage more testimonials.

The all new ‘UR Excellent!’ recognition scheme

We’re not done with recognizing staff just yet! This year’s RUSU Education Officer Fifi Bangham would like to introduce the ‘UR Excellent!’ recognition scheme in association with the RUSU Excellence Awards.

How it works is simple. Students can nominate any staff member at any time of the year and post a nomination postcard in the ‘UR Excellent!’ postboxes around campus. When they get their postcard all nominees will receive a pin badge to put on their lanyard as a reminder of how excellent a student thinks they are!

Nominations are open to University of Reading, RUSU and other staff who work with students. The ‘UR Excellent!’ recognition scheme was created for UoR students to recognise staff who they believe have gone above and beyond and therefore have had a positive impact on their student experience. There’s no award criteria, as long as the submission falls within the guidelines and any staff member can receive an award.

From support to security staff, café workers to cleaners and all academic staff in between, all who are nominated will receive an award!
