Student Experience Awards

RUSU Student Experience Awards recognise the achievements and progress made in the last year by individual reps, such as Part-time Officers, Academic Reps, JCRs, Student Voice Members; as well students who have been involved in campaigns and causes; student volunteers who have been involved in some amazing volunteer projects, or students who have been involved in diverse or inclusive events or initiatives, as well as issue-based student campaigners or lobbyists who have made an impact on campus or in the local community, in the Union, the University or further afield.

What is the criteria for each award?

The awards (and the criteria for each award) are as follows:

Democracy Awards

Student Voice Member of the Year

An individual who has shown commitment and dedication to their role as Student Voice Member, communicating with RUSU staff and students on matters relating to Student Voice, fully participating in meetings and has gone above and beyond to engage with democratic functions within the Union.

Academic Representation Awards

Award for Best Student-led Initiative to Enhance the Student Academic Experience

This award will recognise a student who has gone above and beyond to develop an event, scheme, campaign or otherwise that has enhanced the student academic experience.

Award for Innovation in Academic Representation

This award will recognise an Academic Rep who has introduced a new and different way of representing their students. An innovative Rep might have come up with a unique solution to a problem or implemented an exciting new idea to increase student engagement across their course or school.

Award for Outstanding Impact on the Student Learning Experience

This award will recognise a student who has made an outstanding impact towards improving the student learning experience. This student will have devoted their time towards making an important or significant change which has enhanced student’s daily experiences at University of Reading.

Award for Long Term Commitment to Academic Representation

This award will recognise an Academic Rep who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to representing students over a prolonged period of time. This student has continuously and consistently worked to improve the student experience. They have volunteered countless hours to help benefit others, working closely with RUSU to better the quality of teaching and learning at UoR.

Volunteer Project Awards

Fundraiser of the year

An individual that has gone above and beyond fundraising for charity throughout the year.

Volunteer of the year

An individual that has gone above and beyond in their volunteer role.

Best fundraising event

An exceptional event that clearly demonstrated commitment and dedication to organise whilst raising money for charity.

Most dedicated volunteer project

A project that showed great dedication to their charity.

Most inclusive volunteer project

A project that has gone above and beyond to include students and the Reading community.

Most improved volunteer project

A project that has clearly shown signs of improvement and development throughout the year.

Diversity Awards

Award for Best Student-Led Event promoting Equality, Diversity or Inclusion

This will be given to a student group or individual student for their efforts in organising an event that focuses on striving for equality and/or celebrates diversity and inclusion.

Award for Outstanding Campaign to Develop Inclusivity on Campus

This will be given to a student for their campaign work related to creating an inclusive environment.

Award for Pioneering Diversity

This will be given where a student group, or individual student has shown initiative and drive to diversify an aspect of student life where not previously done before.

Award for Long Term Commitment to Diversity

This will be given to a student who has repeatedly shown their involvement and commitment to diversity initiatives either through being a part of various societies and having taken up rep roles or in terms of their engagement with RUSU initiatives around diversity.

JCR Awards

JCR Committee Member of the Year

An individual who has shown commitment and dedication to their role in the JCR and gone above and beyond to engage with the residents to improve the student experience in hall.

JCR Welfare Campaign of the Year

This award will recognise a welfare campaign that has clearly demonstrated an understanding of the welfare issues in hall in addition to showing commitment and dedication to spreading a positive message within the hall community to enhance the welfare of students.

JCR President of the Year

This award will recognise a JCR President who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the student experience in hall by showing great leadership and initiative throughout the year, engaging with their committee and hall residents.

Most Improved JCR

This committee will have demonstrated clear improvement and development throughout the year by increasing engagement with hall residents and running inclusive events.

JCR of the Year

This award will recognise a JCR committee that has had an exceptional impact towards improving the student experience. This committee will have devoted their time towards creating an inclusive and enjoyable space in halls for students to become part of a community, by running events and initiatives for all.

Student Experience Awards Event

All winners will be announced at the Student Experience Awards event taking place in 3Sixty in the Students’ Union building. The event will take place 6pm-8pm on Wednesday 1st May 2019. This is a free event. Tickets are available here.
