Award Winners 2018

Congratulations to all who were nominated for an award this year and special congratulations to our winners!

Teaching Excellence (Arts, Humanities and Social Science)
Dr Laura Bennett

Laura is someone that I can turn to when in need of help. After receiving a lower grade on an assignment than expected, Laura sat with me and went through my answers. She also gave me assistance with revision tips, meaning that in one of my modules I received the Law School Prize for the best performance in Tort. She has consistently motivated me to do better.

Teaching Excellence (Science)
Dr Hilary Geoghegan

Hilary has been inspiring geography students from their first to the final year! She has always gone the extra mile with her support.. Hilary has run a module that has fully engaged us with the content and we are seeing geography in our everyday lives, this has given us the opportunity to really think about the purpose and power of geography. As students we can tell the amount of enthusiasm that is put into her teaching and have looked forward to her seminars each week.

Teaching Excellence (Life Science)
Dr Darren Juniper

He is a constant help to the animal science and agriculture students. His door is always open and he is always patient when explaining things difficult to understand. He has assisted with work many times that aren’t from his modules because students find him so approachable and patient.

Teaching Excellence (Henley Business School)
Dr Nigel Spinks

Nigel has thought of unique and engaging ways to explore course content in seminars, with practical exercises to keep us interested. He's a genuinely nice person who not only consistently shows interest in our success, but he shows genuine desire to be teaching us.

Personal Tutor Excellence
Dr Chris Jones

He makes sure to have regular meetings with us to see that we’re doing well with our studies and gives me advice for things like placements, CVs, dissertation etc. He is very reliable and always has plenty of helpful advice on how I can improve.

Support Staff Excellence
Jenny Berger

The TSBE centre would grind to a halt within hours without Jenny. Not only is she practical and efficient in matters of managing her research engineer's time and budgets, but she provides invaluable and often overlooked emotional support through stresses during the Doctorate process. She has a keen understanding of all her students and their supervisors that allows her to direct practical and sensible advice; a job that she will drop everything else on the spot to do.

Diverse and Inclusive Teaching Excellence
Dr Madeleine Davies

Having extensively taught me on theoretical debates surrounding feminisms, understandings of racial ideologies, sexuality, and gender theory, particularly in the works of Woolf and Atwood, Maddi relentlessly fights for equality both within and outside of the academic realm.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence
Wenyi (Emma) Sun

She is an excellent teacher. In each tutorial she is really well prepared for all the questions surrounding the topic and could also solve many more questions around the subject. She gave us many examples with easy structures that makes the class understand things that at first, look much more complicated.

She is confident in delivery and ensures adequate changes are being made to support students.

Course Rep of the Year 2018

Course Rep of the Year 2018
Emma Johnson, Part 3 Speech and Language Therapy

I can't give a specific example because Emma constantly goes the extra mile. She has never left me feeling like i haven't been listened to and she always sends emails or messages to let you know how things are progressing. She is honestly a super star.
