IDAHOBIT

RUSU IDAHOBIT campaign 2018-19

The campaign

On 17th May, we celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). We celebrate this as on 17th May.1990, the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organisation approved the International Statistical Classification of Disease and Related Health Problems (ICD 10), which no longer lister homosexuality as a diagnosis.

As such, in 2004, IDAHOBIT was launch to celebrate LGBTIQ people globally. Today, IDAHOBIT is used to champion inclusion and build a better world for the LGBTIQ community.

At the University of Reading for IDAHOBIT last year, there was a focus on hearing gay and lesbian voices and experiences, reflecting on the 30th anniversary of Section 28. This year, there is a particular theme across several of the events of hearing the voices and reflecting on the experiences of trans people across the university and wider society.
