You pay £9000+ per year to study; you hand in your dissertation; you're done! It's time to graduate. Your student loan may have run out and you might have to start paying back your overdraft. But first! Graduation! Included in tuition fees, surely? Nope!
After the amount of tuition paid, graduation should be included within that cost. The university uses an external, private company to rent our graduation gowns and caps, so the profits don't even go back to future students. Also, because they have a captive market (you can't exactly get your specific course/university gown from someplace else) they have freedom to charge whatever they want, another way that students are exploited.
You've achieved so much while studying, you shouldn't have to pay a huge amount of money (again) to be recognized for it.
RUSU should campaign to lower the cost of graduation gown hire.
