LGBQ+ Students' Officer Role

At RUSU we use the acronym LGBQ+ to represent students that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer or questioning or within any other sexual minority or gender identity.

You can self-define as an LGBQ+ student in your elections profile.

What's the role?

Representing LGBQ+ Students’ interests within the:

  • Union
  • University
  • NUS Liberation Conference

What's involved?

You will be acting:

As a Contact

  • Key point of contact for LGBQ+ Students
  • Signpost students to the relevant services
  • Engage LGBQ+ students with the Union’s democratic functions
  • Lead a students' network

As a Campaigner

A campaign can consist of events, initiatives and projects

  • Run campaigns that create positive change
  • Plan awareness raising events and activities
  • Liaise with other officers on inclusive campaigns across multiple liberation groups

As a Representative

Represent LGBQ+ students’ interests within the union, university and nationally by:

  • Attending university committees
  • Attending RUSU’s Liberation and Representation Committee
  • Speaking up at Student Voice
  • Engaging at the NUS Liberation Conference

All for the benefit of LGBQ+ Students

Am I eligible?

If you self-define as LGBQ+ and are enrolled on a course during the academic year nominations are held then yes, you are!

How do I get this role?

You’ll need to nominate yourself for the role when elections open. You’ll need to submit a short manifesto detailing what you’d like to change as LGBQ+ Student's Officer. We have written a guide on how to write a great manifesto.
