Student Networks

Networks are student run, peer support groups to help you meet other students from similar backgrounds to you. These networks are here for you to share common experiences and to receive advice and support from each other. They’re also there if you’re interested in getting involved in campaigns or projects RUSU’s Part-time Officers are working on. Networks will be led by your Part-time Officers and Diversity Officer. They’ll run the network meetings, keep you updated on campaigns and how to get involved, and let you know when the next meetings are!

BME Students’ Network

Your BME Students’ Part-time Officer, Somisola, runs the BME Students’ Network. You can contact her to find out more about the network here: bame@rusu.co.uk.

First meeting: Thursday 28th September at 11:00 in the Thet Wing Aung Boardroom, 1st floor in the Students’ Union building.

Cross-Cultural Students’ Network

Your Diversity Officer, Nozomi, runs the Cross-Cultural Network. This network has been created for Cross-Cultural Kids (CCK) who are people that have “lived in—or meaningfully interacted with—two or more cultural environments for a significant period of time during developmental years” (Van Reken 2002). Students with Disabilities Network

Your Disabled Students’ Part-time Officer, Blythe, runs the BME Students’ Network. You can contact her to find out more about the network here: disabledstudents@rusu.co.uk.

First meeting: Tuesday 2nd October at 12:00 in the Thet Wing Aung Boardroom, 1st floor in the Students’ Union building.

International Students’ Network

LGBT+ Students’ Network

London Road Students’ Network

First meeting: Friday 5th October at 13:00 in L22 G03 (London Road Campus).

Postgraduate Research Students’ Network

What's the difference between a network and a society?

Societies, like networks, provide a chance to meet other people however they do it slightly differently to networks. Societies help you meet people with similar interests to you by running events, activities and trips. Networks on the other hand are there to offer support, they provide you with a chance to meet other students from a similar background or in a similar situation to you. It’s great if you want to join both a society and a network because they’re two different things! You can find out more about the societies and student activities at RUSU here

How do I start a network?

If you don’t see a network for you but believe students would benefit from one, you can set one up yourself. Get in to contact with RUSU’s Campaigns and Inclusion Coordinator on eleanor.warner@reading.ac.uk.
