It is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit making organisation originally established by the Saudi students at the university in 2016 – 2017, and it is a part of the Students’ Union at the University of Reading. It is creating an umbrella that embraces all Saudi students, Arab and elsewhere provides them with “a feel of home” away from the hurdles of studies and university routines. We are truly an open, international society and we aim to help in creating a positive atmosphere between all students regardless of their differences.
Our main aim is help our member at the university by being engaged locally in a wide range of cultural, academic or sports activities. We are also very keen to show a positive image about our country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, by organising cultural events at the university. We would hope that our activities can help in promoting friendship and understanding across the university and in the wider community. The society will host a number of key events throughout the year, which includes short lectures, conferences, sport activities, regular social meetings and cultural festivals at the university and elsewhere. For instance, we will organise the occasion of the Saudi National Day to clarify the Saudi culture for those who have a little knowledge about Saudi Arabia. In addition, we will organise different activities between the society and other societies in the university to allow intercultural communication.
Every year, our programme will revise and adapt to the needs and wishes of our members. Most activities will be free of charge and open to the public and usually include the following:
