The Rock Soc is a social society with a vibrant membership both on campus and in town. Our members enjoy a wide range of alternative music, including classic rock, metal, goth, punk, industrial/EBM, grunge, pop punk, indie and lots more. We host a range of socials throughout the year at different alternative nights in town, at venues like Coalition, Purple Turtle, After Dark, Sub89, Q Club, Facebar, and many more. This year, we are aiming to host more non-drinking socials like movie nights, welfare events, picnics, and more, but we are very well known for our Freshers events, trips to London, Pub Crawls and Halloween/Christmas special events.
We are hoping that there will be events for everyone to enjoy, and we welcome suggestions from members that they would like to see happening on the university calendar.
The new committee for academic year 2018-2019 are hoping organise more trips away from Reading, like Oxford and Brighton, as well as the famed Camden Trip, which has been running for the past two years.
As well as our events that involve listening to music and going out, we as a society love getting involved creatively at the University and online, including our weekly Rock Soc Radio Show on Junction11, music reviewing sites and collaborating with the University's BandSoc, who put on termly gigs that we encourage Rock Soc members to attend!
Our committee this year are a lovely bunch of people, who are delighted to be running the society. We want to see lots of new freshers this coming academic year, and your first chance to meet us will be at the Freshers Fayre on the 26th September, so come say hi at our stall and find out more about our events for this year, where we will be handing out flyers, guitar picks, bottle openers, stickers, patches, and our highly aclaimed Rock Soc Freshers Wristband, which will give you access to all of our events in Welcome Week, as well as exclusive discounts at Reading alternative stores, and events later on in the term.
Join our Facebook group and keep up to date on all the latest events from the society and around Reading, or chat to any of our comittee
members if you want to know anything more \m/
