First Year Representative Needs to be selected.

Our first meeting is on Tuesday the 18th of October 2011 at 7pm.

We are a Society focused on assisting in the development of members academic and vocational skills through advocacy related activities. We also assist in networking with contacts at the Bar. The Bar Society is more than this however; We are not just a Society focused on the Bar, many of our activities include transferable skills which apply to both Solicitors and Barristers.

Solicitors have advocacy rights in the lower courts and by taking an advocacy assessment based on the Solicitors Regulation Authority's higher rights of audience competence standards, Solicitors can also gain advocacy rights in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

The Bar Society organises and runs provocative and topical Debates in order to test members politico-legal knowledge. Topics include abortion, affirmative action, the balance between civil liberties and the need for security and euthanasia for starters.

The Bar Society also runs its own Internal Mooting Competition, with the final and finalists undertaking the final moot at Lincolns Inn before Judges and Barristers.

We also provide information in relation to careers at the Bar, the statistics, how to go about it, information on mini-pupillage and pupillage, as well as arranging speakers including practising barristers and attendance to formal dinners and events at the Inns of Court and the Pupillage Fair.
