Reading Raising And Giving (RAG) is the official fundraising body at The University of Reading. As a student-orientated society, we work to fundraise for a variety of charities, locally and globally, as well as engaging widely with the local community. To do this, we provide students with exciting events and experiences, from themed union nights to hitching across the country and into Europe.

All donations from our events and challenges go towards our chosen charities and we are always interested in trying new things! So get involved, dig deep and help us get everyone on campus talking about Reading RAG! Over the past year, we've raised thousands of pounds and have sent students to Nepal, Peru, Abu Dhabi and Morroco as well as running events on campus and within our local community.

Why Should you Join RAG?

Not only is your involvement with RAG key to help fundraise and support charitable causes, RAG also allows students to develop invaluable skills, memories and experiences that no other society can provide! Skill development and volunteering are two crucial values that extra-curricular societies can give you, alongside your degree, and Reading RAG are here to help!

Our charities for 2017/2018

Each year RAG ask charities to apply to be one of our chosen charities, who we raise money and spread awareness for over the year! Here’s this year’s selection:

ENRYCH (Berkshire) is a charity that believes someone with a disability should not be prevented from living the life they want to live.  That is why they work with individual people, regardless of their disability, to enable them to enjoy hobbies, interests and activities of their choosing, and to develop their skills and knowledge through learning opportunities. ENRYCH provide opportunities to participate in trips and social events that help to: reduce social isolation, improve fitness, emotional health and well-being, and increase self-confidence. For 30 years ENRYCH have encouraged and enabled people with disabilities to reach their potential

ABC to Read

ABC to Read (Assisting Berkshire Children), is a charity that trains and supports volunteers to provide one-to-one mentoring of primary school children who are struggling to read. This mentoring means that children gain an essential skill for life. Not only does this charity improve the confidence and self-esteem of these children, but in a wider perspective ABC to Read are helping to improve deprivation and unemployment in the Berkshire area.

If you are a group wishing to raise money on campus, you need to let us know. As RUSU is a charity fundraising without letting us know is illegal. Taking 5 minutes to complete this form resolves that issue. We all can provide support and collection tins too!
