Our lessons take place every week on a Wednesday afternoon at Wellington Riding School and are split into ability groups. The lessons are discounted 50% for student and non-student members at only £25 for an hours riding and you can ride as little or as often as you like. Bookings are made in advance either by email at (email@example.com), or via our facebook group at (http://www.facebook.com/groups/uni.reading.riding.club/) between Wednesday and Friday of the week before. Each lesson meets an hour before their lesson at Sportspark and either get a taxi or drive to Wellington.
Reading University Riding Club have our own club stash which we like to wear and show off around campus and when we're off riding horses at Wellington. Kit can be ordered at any time from http://university-of-reading-riding-club.secure-decoration.com/
The club holds an array of horsey events throughout the year for all abilities including the christmas gymkhana, jump clinic and Mini bads (one day event), all are a good laugh and an enjoyable escape from lectures and exams! Of course, being a university club we hold many non-horsey socials involving alcohol, food or both. Day trips to the races, Olympia and Robinsons, as well as nights in watching films, nights out drinking snakebites and formals, the socials are a great way to meet other members of the club. As for holidays there is always a trip somewhere in the UK trekking on the moors at the start of the Easter holidays, last year we went to Cwmfforest Riding Centre (www.transwales.com
) and spent 2 and a half days riding in the Brecon Beacons in Wales. This year, for the first time, RURC will be joining lacrosse, hockey, rugby league and many other clubs on tour in either Croatia or Barcelona! A week of sun, fun and partying with a little bit of sport! We're also looking at having a riding holiday abroad during the summer break, potentially a trip to Vienna to ride along the mountains or a trip to the Spanish riding school!
We have 3 teams who each compete four times a year and have 4 members per team. BUCS A&B and a friendlies team. The competitons consist of a dressage round and a showjumping round on horses provided by the hosting university, last year 2 of our BUCS A girls qualified for regionals! We also partake in Varsity with Oxford Brookes, last year we won and we're hoping to continue this success when we host it at Wellington this year! Trials take place in the first few weeks of the Autumn term so make sure you bring your hat and riding boots!
