Welcome to the University of Reading Riding Club!
We are a fun and friendly club open to riders of all abilities from complete beginners to accomplished riders. Be sure to come see us at Freshers Fayre or our Welcome event (details are in the handbook) to chat to the committee, find out about the club and join up for a year of horsey fun in which you'll meet some great people and make some unforgettable memories.
Lessons: We run lessons each week at Wellington Riding split into ability groups. Bookings are made after lessons have finished on Wednesdays either by email at (email@example.com), via our facebook group at (http://www.facebook.com/groups/uni.reading.riding.club/). Bookings open on a Wednesday at 12 midday and are closed on Friday at 3pm for the following Wednesday. You must book in advance for a lesson as you can't just turn up on the day. Let us know your ability group, weight and height, what time you can ride and whether you have a car to help with sharing lifts. Lessons cost £25 each, and you can ride as little or often as you wish. Groups meet an hour before lessons start outside the Sportspark and share lifts so we can all get to the stables on time together.
Kit: Reading University Riding Club have our own club stash which we like to wear and show off around campus and when we're off riding horses at Wellington. Kit can be ordered at any time from http://www.teamshopbuilder.co.uk/universityofreadingridingclub/findProdByShopId.action
Events: We run a series of in house competitions throughout the year, usually one at the end of each term. These are fun, friendly and great experiences for everyone to get involved in. These include dressage, showjumping, pony gymkhanas and Mini Bads (a one day event) at the end of the summer term. All of these competitions are open to all members regardless of experience.
Teams: We have a number of riding teams who compete against other university teams around the country throughout the year. We have two affiliated BUCS teams and a friendly team. The competitions are combined training (dressage and show jumping) and are ridden on the host university horses, so you don’t need to own your own horse. Trials will be run during the first few weeks of the autumn term, talk to us at Freshers fayre or email us if you're interested in trialing.
Socials: We run a whole bunch of socials throughout the year, including day and nights, alcoholic and non-alcoholic to include trips to the union, town, pubs, film nights, meals and more horsey events such as Olympia and Royal Windsor Horse Show with trips to Robinson to stock up on horsey gear at the start of the year! They are a great opportunity to get to know all of the members and generally have a good time!
Holidays: Each year in the Easter holiday we go away as a club for a few days of hacking across the countryside. Last year we went to Cwmfforest Riding Centre (www.transwales.com) and spent 2 and a half days riding in the Brecon Beacons in Wales
