Reading University Caving Club is one of the most unique sports societies at Reading. Caving is an adventurous and extreme sport that lets you explore incredible places that the majority don’t even know exist. We will typically spend four weekends away each term in some of the most beautiful parts of the country, including the Yorkshire Dales, the Royal Forest of Dean, the Peak District, the Mendip Hills (in Somerset), Devon and South Wales. Push your body to its limits, open yourself to a whole new world entirely underground and see some stunning natural formations. Membership is open both to students and to the general public and the best part is the sport is completely non-competitive, so absolutely anyone can take part.
RUCC has a large supply of caving gear in our tackle hut, so if you’re new to caving you don’t need to worry about kit as we have all the equipment you’ll require. Protective clothing, helmets, harnesses, ropes, as well as rigging guides, maps and books.
We also have a great social side, meeting every Monday evening at a local pub, as well as organising a wide range of social events throughout the year - from pub crawls to film nights, city excursions to theme park days. As an added bonus, we're one of the cheapest Reading Uni sports clubs to join and to take part in our activities!
To find out more about us and what we do, speak to us at freshers fayre, or come along to one of our presentations or social events. Our first day trip of the year is on Saturday 23rd September 2016. We will be going for a short trip to the Mendips in Somerset where you can explore a really fun cave, meet some current members and get a really good feel for what the club is all about. We look forward to meeting you!
We have a free mailing list http://www.lists.rdg.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/rucavers that you can join to keep up-to-date with the most important announcements and trip details. Our facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/rucavers/ is also a great place to stay clued in on everything that’s happening within the club, particularly regarding socials! We also have a recently updated website www.rucavers.co.uk which has all the information about the club you could possibly need.
If you have any questions or would like to become a member or sign up to a trip then feel free to contact us. We welcome anyone and everyone!
