Welcome to Reading University Men’s Hockey Club.
We are one of the largest and most successful clubs in the Sports Federation. We boast five strong men’s teams competing in BUCS leagues every Wednesday, and one men’s team competing in a local league every Saturday. All the teams also take part in a cup competition. We have had huge success on the pitch this season, with our 1sts being in the BUCS Premier League the highest ranked league in England and our 4ths and 5ths after a tough campaign being promoted. The 2nds and 3rds narrowly missed out with both finishing second and the 2nds winning the Cup competition. The club can cater for everyone, from beginners to those looking to compete at the highest possible level at University.
Although we are one of the largest clubs at the university, we still successfully manage to remain a very close knit and social club, where everyone knows everyone, largely down to our regular whole club socials. The club host several socials each term, with and without the Women’s Hockey Club. At these events, the whole club comes together to socialise and hopefully celebrate good on-pitch results! This is a great chance to get together with fellow hockey club members. There is also a strong club tradition where individual teams get together post-match on Wednesday evenings to celebrate success, or if not success, celebrate life!
The Club currently work with Reading Hockey Club, one of the best clubs in the country, sharing resources, from pitches to international level coaches, as well as giving you the opportunity to join Reading Hockey Club to play both University and Club hockey.
As one of the highest funded clubs in the University, we are allocated ample pitch time at the University with whole club training on Mondays, and training on Thursdays. We’re excited to be introducing Rob Farrow as our new Director of Hockey for the Club, along with Head Coach Liam Sanford. Rob, or Faz, has been the club captain of Reading Hockey Club since 2015, some of his accolades include:
- RHC National Cup Winner 2017
- RHC U18 National Cup Winner X2
- RHC U15 National Cup Winner
- RHC European Cup Winner U18
Liam' also a member of Reading Hockey Club, he plays a very high standard of hockey and has represented his country on a number of occassions. Some of his best achievements are:
- 2017 Sultan of Johor - Gold
- 2017 World League Semi Final - Bronze
- 2017 EuroHockey Championships - Bronze
- 2018 Commonwealth Games- Bronze
- Combined GB & England Caps: 41
The pair have high ambitions for the coming season.
And if all that is not enough, the Club (along with the women's Club) also goes on an annual tour to Croatia, this is not to be missed! Sun, hockey and other fun activities are often the highlight of the season.
