Never heard of Korfball? Well, neither had we yet we came 3rd in the National Shield in 2017 and competed in National Trophy in 2018!

What is Korfball?

Korfball is a Dutch sport which is a mixture of basketball, netball and handball. It's a mixed-gender sport with teams of 8, made up of four boys and four girls. Attack and defence divisions switch ends every two goals so team members are able to play all positions and everyone has the chance to shoot.

How do I play?

Whilst korfball is a mixed gendered sport, within the game you must mark an opposing player of your own gender. Movement with the ball is limited but less strict than netball, and shots can be taken from anywhere within the attacking half. Although you can shoot from anywhere within the attacking half-court, shots do not count if closely marked by defenders of the opposing team. Similarly to other sports, penalties and free passes are awarded to a team due to unlawful play from the opposing team.

How do I join?

Most of our players had never heard of Korfball before joining the club, let alone played before, so Reading Korfball is inclusive for both beginners and experts alike. We train weekly on Friday evenings from 5:45-7:45pm in the Sportspark, and have weekend matches throughout the year, as well as competing in as many friendlies and inter-university tournaments (with huge socials) as possible.

We have teams that are social and laid back or competitive all of whom train and play together.

If you’d like to find out more and join one of the most exciting, social and fastest-growing sports teams on Campus, find us in the Fresher’s Fayre tent, or come to a FREE taster session on Friday 28th of September from 5:45-7:45pm and Friday 5th of October from 5:45-7:45pm in the Sports Park. New members are welcomed to the team at any point within the year, just contact us through our social media pages for more information.
