Cheerleaders

What is Cheerleading?

As a member of Reading Knights Cheerleading, you will have the opportunity to compete at National and International competitions and also have the chance to help cheer on our many other great sports teams! You can use pom-poms if you want but that’s not the kind of cheerleading we do. Cheerleading is a sport for BOTH males and females! Cheer requires technique, endurance and strength. So, guys don’t be put off by the stereotypes – we promise you don’t have to wear skirts!

Reading Knights Cheer have successful and hard-working squads that are included in the many competitive cheerleading teams that compete every year across the UK! Every year the number of competitive cheerleading teams is growing, and competition is getting fiercer. Our professionally trained coaches put together challenging but exciting new routines for new competitions, including stunts, pyramids, tumbling and dance.

On a competitive cheer squad, you’ll get to perform in not one but TWO competitions each year in places like Birmingham, Telford and Bournemouth (with time to celebrate on the beach!). Competition days are great fun because by this time you have already bonded with your squad and it’s one big family outing! To prepare for these competitions, there is training twice a week – one training with just your squad and then one weekly tumble training. Tumble training is a great chance to get to know other society members and work with people of similar tumble level to progress your skills together.

If you aren't keen on competing or travelling, our performance squad is perfect for you! In the performance squad you get to perform routines including tumbling, dance and stunting but don't have to go to compeitions all over the country. You still get the smart uniforms and get to attend all the socials.

On the other hand, we support the other sports teams at the University throughout the year and we have great fundraisers to help cover cost of competitions and uniforms!

Competitions:

·      Future cheer University Nationals 2017 (Summer competition)

                    - 3rd Place – Co-ed Level 2

·      BCA University Nationals Telford March 2018

             -3rd Place - All girl Level 2

             -4th Place - Co-Ed Level 1

Cheer Squads:

We have three competitve squads levels 1, 2 and 3 which compete in different national competitions all across the country and one performance squad which performs at varsity against Oxford Brookes and support other Reading Knights sports teams. Squad placements will determine whether the teams are all-girl or Co-Ed (male and female)

Why join Reading Knights Cheerleading?

You make friends for life through cheerleading and you get to learn and perfect new skills!

You don’t have to be an expert or have even done cheerleading or gymnastics to join cheer (although if you have then that’s great too!) We believe in the ethos – work hard, play hard. Each year we have amazing socials, both as a society and joint with other societies including American Football

Come along to the Sports Fayre to find out more! We look forward to meeting you and hopefully welcoming you to the Knights family!

Knights love xoxo
