Welcome to Reading University Women’s Rugby Union Page!

Reading University ladies we want you! Are you a fresher coming to the University of Reading this year or someone who wants to try rugby? Come and have a go at something different. You do not have to have any prior rugby experience although if you do it is always a bonus! Look out for us at the Fresher's Fair or wandering around campus in our kit!

Taster sessions will be on the 1st October at 7pm – meet us outside the new sports pavilion. Remember to look out for us at Fresher’s Fair. If you watched the Women's Rugby World Cup and want to keep the legacy alive then this is the sport for you. We have been lucky enough to be featured as a demo team on the popular show ‘Rugby Tonight’ alongside Jimmy Gopperth from London Wasps as well having our annual tour to exciting destinations like Prague, Salou Dublin, Berlin and Malta.

We are a developing squad open to all abilities from county players to complete beginners. We pride ourselves on our friendliness and team spirit and are basically an extended family at the university. We want girls of all shapes to take part in the sport so come and have a go at something different. You do not have to have any prior rugby experience although if you do it is always a bonus! We have a week of preseason from the 21st of September that includes two sessions a day – one fitness based, and one skill based.  We stand by our motto of ‘work hard play hard’, so although rugby is, of course, important we have lots of fun socials. Don’t be afraid to try something different, you won’t regret it!!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

We currently play in the SouthEastern 2A division of the BUCS league, which is suitable for players of all abilities. These games take place on Wednesday afternoons which are set aside from academic timetables for sport. We train on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm .  This year we intend to have a few friendly games and a tournament in the first term before the league begins. Varsity is a crucial game of the season to us and a major event in the sporting calendar of both Reading University and our rivals Oxford Brooke's University. It's also an excuse for a wicked day and night out. Overall our aim for this year is to start a seconds team and improve all season, as we have so much potential in the squad we have already and hopefully in any freshers and new players we gain! Our membership fee is only £35 so it's a cheap way to get fit and have fun with new friends!

Important Times:

Matches -  Wednesday Afternoons @ 2pm

Training - Monday's @ 7-9pm & Wednesday's @ 2-4pm

   Things to look forward to...

Our Socials:

Like all rugby teams we love a good night out, so socials are very important. Our themes have included Zombie Rugby Players for Halloween, What I want to be when I grow up, and of course golfing attire for pub golf. There'll be plenty more to surprise you with in the coming year from our new social secretaries Ellie & Sophie. If you're not sure rugby is for you, come to one of our socials and we will show you how to have a good time!!

Not forgetting TOUR! Prepare for the best time of your lives, previous trips have been to Prague, Salou, Dublin, Berlin and this year we went to Malta! Next year we plan to go one better and take you all away to another fantastic city!  What goes on tour stays on tour so you best come along to find out!!!!
