Welcome to RUES
Our aim is to allow our members to meet people on their course, on a social and academic level. We also aim to provide insight into various sectors, such as finance and business, to allow members the opportunity to look for roles that they may be interested in for graduate jobs and beyond. We cater for students from all degrees and backgrounds, as economics is relevant to such a wide range of disciplines such as accountancy, HR and marketing.
Economics Lecture Series (ELS). We are bringing in guest speakers from different parts of the UK to talk to you about economic events, research, current problems, controversial policies and many other interesting subjects. We will also organise trips to attend public lectures and events at the Royal Economics Society, IFS, Institute of Economic Affairs, National Institute of Economics & Social Research and Adam Smith Institute.
Graduate Opportunities. We are bringing in guest speakers from various businesses and roles to talk to you about job and career prospects. We will provide opportunities to hear from employers on what they look for in graduates and placement year students.
Socials. We provide an excellent platform to meet, socialise and network with fellow students of similar interests. The society hosts a huge range of events throughout the year, including a Fresher Social in Term 1 to help first years make new friends, as well as a Christmas ball to celebrate the end of the year!
Help and Advice. Our committee members are very friendly and approachable, so you can talk to us about any problems. We will run a few drop-in sessions, in which you can come and get help from us with anything you are struggling with in your degree, such as module advice and extenuating circumstances. Our intention is to introduce cross year study groups to allow students to access peer support networks.
