Our aim is to allow our members to meet people on their course on a social and academic level. In spite of its focus on Economics, the society endeavours to cater to students from all degrees and disciplines. Here’s a list of things we plan to do in 2019/20 academic year:
Economics Lecture Series (ELS). We are bringing in guest speakers from different parts of the UK to talk to you about economic events, research, current problems, controversial policies, and many other interesting subjects. We will also organise trips to attend public lectures and events in London. Royal Economics Society, IFS, Institute of Economic Affairs, National Institute of Economics & Social Research and Adam Smith Institute are just some of the institutions whose events and lectures we plan to attend.
RUES Football Team. If you like football and want to play with fellow economics students either on grass or on astroturf then join the football team. We will also play against teams from other societies and halls.
Socials. We will host a number of socials where students from all years can get to know each other. These socials include nights out, themed and joint socials with other societies, quizzes, movie nights and a formal at the end of the year.
Help and Advice. Our committee members are very friendly and approachable, so you can talk to us about any problems you have. We will run a few drop-in sessions in which you can come and get help from us with anything you are struggling with in your degree, such as module advice and ect.
In the meantime, join our Facebook page here to get the latest news and events about this upcoming year. Freshers can join our Facebook group where they can get to know their new coursemates. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email us, or to post on the Facebook page.
