We are a society run by and for LGBT+ students. We are an inclusive group - anyone who identifies as a sexual and/or gender minority is welcome to join us, and we welcome allies. Any exclusionism will be taken seriously be the committee and by RUSU, and our number one priority is in creating a safe space for all attendees.
Membership is free for members who are students at the University of Reading (including ERASMUS and other students on a placement scheme) and there is an £8.15 membership fee for associate members (non-students or students completely external to UoR).
Our primary goals are to work to create a safe, social place for people that define as LGBT+ within/around the university, and look out for the welfare of all members of our community. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact a committee member, any of the society socials, or submit a question on our Curious Cat.
Our vibrant society runs frequent and varied weekly socials, campaigns and coffee hours every Monday and Thursday from 1-2pm, on the main Whiteknights campus (This term we're meeting in Palmer G03 on Monday and G04 on Thursday). It provides students with the opportunity to meet and build relationships with each other, in a relaxed, non-drinking (by this we mean no alcohol!) environment.
Our vibrant society runs frequent and varied socials on campus and around Reading, and occasionally trips outside of Reading. We run several drinking and non-drinking socials throughout the year, to ensure everyone's tastes are catered for. These range from, picnics, talks and capture the flag to Union nights and pres. The highlights of our year are always Student Pride in London, (including a night out in Heaven), and the LGBT+ Prom in March (which we're already hard at work on).
For this coming academic year, we have many plans for our society and our socials. We're integrated with other LGBT+ friendly societies on campus, providing opportunities to hold several more non-drinking socials such as sports and crafts. The society is integrating further with RUSU and the campaigns of the Student Officers, so we'd love to hear your suggestions for how else we can help.
We look forward to this year and to meeting everyone and we hope to make the best of it as we all deserve it!
Anyone wishing to join our closed Facebook group must sign up as a member here on RUSU, before their membership can be approved.
