Reading Jewish Society (JSoc) is an inclusive, friendly, fun and progressive JSoc ready to cater to Jews of all persuations at the University of Reading. We pride ourselves on the friendly and welcoming environment we have at the JSoc. Because we're a small, laid-back yet active society, we're easy to get to know, make friends with, and join in with our activities. I would, at this stage, write that we also don't bite, but so many of our social events are food based that a statement like that would simply be false...
We hold and attend a range of social, educational and charitable events, including Friday night dinners, Purim and Chanukah socials, pub quizzes, speakers, lunch and learns, and volunteering in the local community, as well as seeking in the coming year to put on and play a larger part in Jewish and Holocaust education on campus.

But what events have we done in the past, I hear you ask? Here's a selection...

  • Weekly Friday night dinners on campus
  • Pub quizzes
  • Purim and Chanukkah socials
  • Comedy nights
  • Film nights
  • Challah baking
  • JUEFA (Like UEFA, but with 'Jewish' at the beginning)

  • Commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day with Holocaust Survivor speakers
  • Lunch and Learns
  • Hebrew lessons

Charity & Volunteering:

  • Mitzvah Day food collection
  • Volunteering in local elderly care home
  • One off volunteering, e.g. reading to children over National Book Week
  • Running assemblies about Judaism in local primary schools as part of the RE curriculum
