Why Join?

Reading University Tap and Modern society (RUTAM) is a fantastic opportunity to dance at uni! It is a great chance for you to make new friends, develop or learn a skill, keep fit, and simply to have fun and make the most of your time at Reading. Whether you have danced before or are a beginner that would like to learn something new – come along and give it a go!

Our teachers are students who are experienced dancers that teach classes in a variety of styles, such as tap, lyrical, contemporary, commercial and jazz. We also teach at all skill levels, so do not feel daunted if you have no experience in certain areas of dance. Just try something new! They will aim to improve your technique and choreograph brilliant routines for us to learn, perform and, most of all, enjoy.

RUTAM is always fun and easy to get involved with. We like to include all members, so whether you're the life and soul of the party or prefer socialising with a movie and a takeaway; we cater for all! This year has seen many fancy dress socials, pub crawls, meals out, film nights, weekends away and the Dance Societies Ball.

Last Show

RUTAM presents... Platinum! – The 2019 edition of our RUTAM annual show on 6th December 2019 was a night of amazing themed performances of No. 1's across the decades from RUTAM dancers as well as other Reading dance societies such as K-pop, Ballet and RUBLS (Ballroom, Latin and Salsa). We raised a total of £760 for Chance to Dance Stars CIC (a community interest company). Chance to Dance Stars CIC gives access to dance and other activities for children and young adults with a range of disabilities including physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional or developmental disabilities.
