Join us at RKCC for an action packed year of canoeing and kayaking!
Our main focus is to spread our love of water and spend time with an awesome bunch of people. With us you can develop your skills as a kayaker or simply enjoy a relaxing day on the river. We are known for being one of the most sociable clubs on campus and have a great year in store for you! Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up to date on upcoming events and trips, including our FREE taster sessions!
We run river sessions every week at the Wokingham Waterside Centre in Reading, but love venturing out to Dartmoor, Wales, Scotland and even the Alps to find the white water! We also head out to the coast for our surf trip in the summer.
Our regular weekly sessions are as follows::
Wednesdays 2pm: River session at Wokingham Waterside Centre
Saturdays 1pm: River session at Wokingham Waterside Centre
TBC Pool session! Meet us at RUSU carpark for transport to TBC. Our pool sessions are for practicing skills off the river in a relaxed and much warmer setting. Wear swimwear/shorts/t-shirt/leggings - whatever you feel comfortable swimming in and getting in & out of boats (Due to COVID-19 Pool sessions will NOT be running in the Autumn Term)
Our river sessions are very relaxed and can involve anything from a short paddle to the nearest pub to sessions where we play polo and other games. We also often travel to county wier in the town centre and get donuts, as well as developing our skills of course!
On top of regular weekly sessions, we also have 4 Whitewater trips a year, at various rivers around the UK. These trips are for all abilities- from a complete newbie who has never even considered whitewater kayaking, to someone who has been kayaking for years! You don't need any previous canoeing or kayaking experience to join the club. We are a dedicated mix of people who are eager to show you how much fun this sport is! We're also lucky enough to have the amazing support of Reading's alumni and paddlers from all over who often join us on our trips.
Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to have a free trial at one of our sessions!
COVID: How we are providing safe activity for our members
As we are able to book facilities/have approved guidance from our NGB we have put in place a number of measures to ensure we operate within government and NGB guidelines. We have appointed Covid Officers within our committee who will monitor our guidelines and update our risk assessment on a regular basis. They will also be responsible for maintaining our track and trace information and communicating with our members where necessary.
We will follow all the guidance set out and ensure that our sessions run at the allowed capacities. These will be much lower than we would normally have so we will be providing bookable sessions and ensuring that a fair balance is maintained between returners and new members and that no one is missing out.
